In the first stage of this automated process, bare coils are unwound and cleaned and/or otherwise pretreated to prepare them for painting. Then, one or two layers of paint, topcoat-only or primer and topcoat, are applied, to both sides of the metal. Coating thickness of each coating layer is closely controlled and uniformly applied from edge to edge of the coil strip. Coatings are then baked, reacted or otherwise cured in ovens specially designed for that purpose and to capture and control solvents or reaction products that result. All the while, consistent painting quality is assured through the efforts of trained line operating and quality control personnel with Akzo Nobel assistance available just a phone call away.

When you specify metal coils with Akzo Nobel finishes, you actually receive the cooperative work product and quality assurance from a team of suppliers consisting of a metal supplier, a coil coater and Akzo Nobel.

Coatings for Coil application represent truly amazing technology. When we typically think of paints or coatings we envision a pre-fabricated object being painted. It is one of the last steps involved in the old production processes used by most manufacturers of painted products in the past.
