END USE DESCRIPTION

ACRA-BOND+PLUS+ is an Akzo Nobel workhorse, single-coat acrylic bake system. It is to be used as a cosmetic coating for the Residential window and door markets, both prime and after-market. Other applications are for interior metal surfaces such as interior curtainwall sills and caps. See AAMA 2603-98 specification.

FEATURES

ACRA-BOND+PLUS+ has the following beneficial features:

APPLICATION

ACRA-BOND+PLUS+ is strictly spray-applied. Unlike the coil process, where a perfectly flat sheet is painted, the intricate profiles of extruded aluminum require spray application. This ensures that the proper thickness of the coating is evenly applied to the channels and recessed areas of the extrusions. The coating is applied only after the metal substrate is properly cleaned and chemically prepared in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The coating is then applied to the metal and baked. ACRA-BOND+PLUS+ is a single-coat system baked to manufacturer's specified peak metal temperature. Color, gloss, hardness, cure, flexibility, adhesion and other checks are conducted during on-line Quality Control. Many coaters utilize thermal incineration to destroy almost 100% of the volatile organic compounds (VOC's) used in the spray process.

TEST SPECIFICATIONS

Test methods are established by ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials). The specification that this product was designed to meet is the American Architectural Manufacturers Association "AAMA2603-98 specs". It is a ONE-year specification titled Voluntary Specification, Performance Requirements and Test Procedures for "High Performing Organic Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions and Panels".

PRODUCT COMPOSITION

ACRA-BOND+PLUS+ is made with a blend of hard and yet somewhat flexible acrylic copolymers as a binder combination. Regular, organic pigment is used to achieve a beautiful array of endless colors. These include custom matches to our TRINAR® and ALUM*A*STAR™ 50 systems for interior use as previously mentioned.

MAINTENANCE

Proper maintenance is vital for any coating to achieve maximum installed life performance. Contact Akzo Nobel and ask for a copy of our "Care and Maintenance" Guide for recommended methods and procedures. Color matched air-dry coatings for post construction touch-up and scratch repair are available for all Akzo Nobel building products finishes through your system fabricator. These repair kits should be specified in the architect's project documentation.

COSTING and WARRANTY

For accurate installed costing information, contact the fabricator of the specified painted product or system. Expert information regarding Warranty policies will be provided by contacting Akzo Nobel Coatings Marketing and Sales department.

Akzo Nobel has been producing light commercial and residential coatings for the window and door business for over twenty years. During that time, better polymer chemistry has evolved and has affected the way we formulate this great single coat product, ACRA-BOND+PLUS+.

Why is there a +PLUS+ on the end? Several years ago, we wanted to raise the bar to improve the ease of application and hiding for very clean Whites and other difficult colors. ACRA-BOND+PLUS+ has done that. We wanted to produce the most flexible, best adhering and hardest coating in the residential market. These too have been accomplished. Applied cost per gallon? Others are now trying to catch up. These are just some of the attributes we have formulated into ACRA-BOND+PLUS+.

How can all these product improvements help you in choosing the proper coating or in the daily operation of your coating line? By reducing scrap costs caused by blisters and poor coverage from High Solids Polyesters. By getting better square foot coverage at lower films and having harder more mar resistant coating surfaces. This helps considerably to reduce and minimize scratching and surface wear during transportation to your site. The finish appearance is smoother with a sharper image. If you wish to capitalize on the strengths of ACRA-BOND+PLUS+, contact us for more information.

NOTE: Market end uses:
(Exterior/Interior) Residential and light commercial window and skylight products. Storm windows and door products and consumer/home builder windows and glass enclosures.

(Interior) Commercial and Architectural sill and cover caps as well as all other interior metal surfaces. ACRA-BOND+PLUS+ can be converted for many interior applications to an air-dry system.
